Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, nestled in the lush, thick forest of Piedras Blancas National Park in Costa Rica‘s remote southern zone, is the perfect jungle retreat for eco-tourists seeking adventure off the beaten track. It is completely integrated into its environment so the visitor can truly experience the feeling of living in a Costa Rican jungle. If you are interested in getting away from the typical crowded tourist spots and enjoying the wilderness of a pristine rainforest, Esquinas Lodge is the perfect destination for you.
Esquinas Rainforest Lodge is part of a model project which combines nature conservation, rainforest research and development aid. Opened in 1994, the lodge was financed by the government of Austria and has a strong commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices as well as community development.
We are located near the village of La Gamba, only three miles off the Interamerican Highway and a 30-minute drive from Golfito airport. Esquinas Lodge provides an abundance of different full-day and half-day tours that highlight the natural biodiversity of a tropical rainforest. These include hiking, birdwatching, horseback and mountain bike tours, and boat and kayak trips in nearby Golfo Dulce. At Esquinas, no more than 30 people at a time can be found exploring an area as larger than Manuel Antonio National Park, which receives 150,000 visitors per year.
Rooms
Each of our fourteen rooms offers a private bathroom with hot water shower, ceiling fan, full screening and a terrace. The large main building with it‘s roof made from 70,000 palm fronds has a spacious, open living room, library, bar, and a restaurant offering high-standard cuisine only a stone‘s throw from the dense jungle. We are praised for our tropical cocktails and fruit juices, the exotic vegetables from our own garden, or the freshly caught fish from Golfo Dulce. Our beautifully landscaped tropical garden attracts more than 200 species of birds, colorful butterflies, coatis, monkeys, iguanas, caymans and many other animals. The chlorine-free pool has a temperature of 80 degrees F. all year around and is fed by a crystal-clear jungle stream. A 10-mile long network of well-marked trails, most of which lead through fascinating, untouched primary forest, departs directly behind the lodge. |
