Ramada Plaza Herradura Golf Resort & Conference Center Hotel Description:
We are nestled in the heart of the central valley, amid a breathtaking backdrop of lush green meadows and surrounded by beautiful mountains, five miles away from the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO), and a short driving distance from San Jose, the capital city.
Our hotel is nature friendly and on August 1999 was awarded with four out of five sustainability flags of the "BANDAS DE SOSTENIBIILIDAD" Program (Sustainable Flags Program) of the Costa Rica Tourist Board, making our property therefore, the first city hotel to obtain this prestigious distinction.
The Cariari is a challenging course measuring 6,700 yards from the blue tees with a slope of 145. It is undulating with sticky, Bermuda greens. Fairways are narrow and water comes into play on 8 holes.
Each of the 232 rooms is elegantly furnished, with air-conditioning, also equipped with satellite color TV (U.S. programming). Some rooms offer spectacular views, private balconies and patio.
Non-smoking rooms and executive business equipment and services are available.
All guests at the Herradura Hotel Golf Resort are invited to use the Cariari Country Club golf course.
The Cariari Country Club is located 500 meters away from the hotel main entrance. Transportation can be arranged at our front desk or bellmen free of charge.
The Cariari, long considered to be the best course in Central America, is a natural to play when arriving in Costa Rica. Situated on land that was once a coffee plantation, the Cariari was designed by golf course architect George Fazio and built by his now famous nephew, Tom Fazio. This par 71 course measures 6,590 yards from the Championship tees, but plays much longer. The course is heavily wooded, the fairways are narrow with few fairway bunkers, and the greens tend to be on the large side with sand traps throughout. The greens are Bermuda and roll fast and true. The course record is held jointly by Raymond Floyd and Costa Ricans Álvaro Ortiz and Mario Pérez. The Cariari was the site of the Friendship Cup in 1979 & 1980. These PGA sponsored events were won by Larry Zeigler (2 under) and Raymond Floyd (9 under). Rental clubs available.
