The Hotel Ramada Plaza Herradura was first build in March 1975 by Exposiciones Agropecuarias Bonanza, to allocate the foreigner participants of agropecuarian events in Costa Rica with the name Hotel Herradura Americano. Later on, the name was modified to Hotel Herradura, which was, and still is a land mark in Costa Rica. In 1986 the Hotel was increased to 145 rooms and also became part of the group of the Hotel Sheraton Franchise and again changed its name to Hotel Sheraton Herradura. As a product of this integration, the Hotel increased its standards of quality and services to international standards for the national and foreigners’ tourists. Nonetheless, during the nineties, the franchise was eliminated and the Hotel was renamed Hotel Herradura Golf Resort & Conference Center. This new administration build 89 new rooms, a casino, a new swimming pool, a snack bar and build the Conference Center, which was finished in 1991, becoming the most extensive and modern Conference Center in Central America, which have distinguished Ramada Plaza Herradura as one of the best Hotels in Costa Rica. On 5th March 2001 a new group assumed the administration of the Hotel. On 7th December 2005 the new administration acquired the franchise owned by Cendant; named Ramada Plaza, thus the hotel changed the named to Hotel Ramada Plaza Herradura, keeping the tradition of the trademark “Herradura” because of the importance in Hotel history in Costa Rica.

Golf and Country Club
All guests at the Ramada Plaza Herradura are invited to use the Cariari Country Club Golf Course, which is the best Golf Course in Costa Rica and one of the most prestigious Golf Course in Central America. Although it is a private Course NOT available for play to the general public, guest of Hotel Ramada Plaza Herradura are gifted with this privilege.
The Cariari Country Club is located 500 meters away from the hotel main entrance. Transportation can be arranged at our front desk or bellmen free of charge.
The Cariari, long considered to be the best course in Central America, is a natural to play when arriving in Costa Rica. Situated on land that was once a coffee plantation, the Cariari was designed by golf course architect George Fazio and built by his now famous nephew, Tom Fazio. This par 71 course measures 6,590 yards from the Championship tees, but plays much longer. The course is heavily wooded, the fairways are narrow with few fairway bunkers, and the greens tend to be on the large side with sand traps throughout. The greens are Bermuda and roll fast and true. The Tour of the Americas Tournament is held in this Golf Course.
